Zodiac Sign by Month: Which Sign Rules Your Birthday?
A clear month-by-month guide to every zodiac sign, the dates they cover, and the energy they bring.
How Zodiac Signs and Calendar Months Align
Each zodiac sign covers roughly 30 days, but they do not line up neatly with calendar months. Most months contain the tail end of one sign and the beginning of another. The exact date a sign changes — called an ingress — shifts slightly each year because the Sun's movement is calibrated to the solar year, not the Gregorian calendar.
If your birthday falls within one or two days of a sign change, you are born on or near the cusp. To know your exact sign, check the precise ingress date for your birth year rather than relying on approximate date ranges.
January
January opens under Capricorn (December 22 – January 19). Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn, associated with ambition, discipline, and long-term structure. Birthdays from January 20 onward fall under Aquarius (January 20 – February 18), a fixed air sign ruled by Uranus, associated with individuality, innovation, and collective thinking.
